For over 30 years Ben Bycel has been involved in almost every aspect of the legal profession. As a trial attorney, he is one of the few Santa Barbara attorneys to have won a landmark case before the California Supreme Court.
Ben has been listed in publications in both Los Angeles and Santa Barbara as one of the most “significant” and “trusted lawyers” in the community.
After many years of representing clients in diverse areas of the law, Ben now devotes his private law practice exclusively to family law and mediation. Ben has been involved in hundreds of family law matters, ranging from divorces, child custody disputes, and post-divorce matters to cases that deal with complex financial and asset issues.
Besides his law practice he is also a legal consultant and expert witness in legal malpractice and political corruption cases.
Ben served for a number of years as dean of the Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law. He was instrumental in ensuring the school’s accreditation. As both a professor and dean, Ben supervised and taught many lawyers now practicing both private and public law in Santa Barbara County, including judges, district attorneys, and public defenders.
Ben also served as an adjunct law professor at, among other places, UCLA, USC, and Loyola. He taught in the law and society programs at UCSB and Occidental College.
Ben has also used his legal skills to fight public corruption as the chief ethics officer of both the city of Los Angeles and the state of Connecticut. He worked with local and state enforcement officers to investigate and prosecute violations of governmental ethics and corruption laws.
