Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Gregory L. Gowan earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Texas A&M University at College Station in 1993. He earned his law degree in 1995 from Texas Tech School of Law. While at Texas Tech, Gregory served as Associate Editor of the Texas Tech Law Review and Vice-Chair of the Board of Barristers. He was the 1995 Champion of both the Advanced Mock Trial and Advanced Moot Court Competitions, including awards for Best Oralist and Best Brief.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Gowan joined the firm of Meredith, Donnell & Abernethy in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1996, Gregory started his own practice which developed into the litigation firm of Williams, Kasperitis & Gowan, P.C. As a founding partner of the firm, he handled a wide variety of civil matters, including personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, commercial and maritime cases. His firm won a landmark verdict against Humana Inc. in 2000. Gregory joined the predecessor firm of Watts Law Firm in 2002, focusing his representation of plaintiffs in a wide variety of civil matters, including personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, complex commercial litigation, construction- related litigation and 18 wheeler litigation. In April 2003, Mr. Gowan obtained the largest verdict in the history of Nueces County in Knight v. DePena, a record that stands to this day. After leaving Mikal Watts’ firm in 2009, Gregory helped form Huerta, Elizondo & Gowan, L.L.P. and in May 2011, Gregory and Luis Elizondo formed Gowan Elizondo, L.L.P.Gregory has represented minors his entire career. In addition to representing minors as a plaintiff's attorney, he has been appointed ad litem, by both state and federal courts, for hundreds of minors around the country. Gregory has served as Special Master for mass tort settlements involving Avandia and Topamax.
Gregory is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has been recognized by Thomson Rueters as a "Super Lawyer" from 2009 to present. In 2013, Gregory had the privilege of joining the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Mr. Gowan has written numerous articles and continues to write articles for presentation at continuing legal education seminars. Mr. Gowan is a member of the State Bars of Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA), the American Trial Lawyers Association (ATLA), the Christian Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA) and the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas. He is licensed to practice law in the state courts of Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Western and Northern Districts of Texas, and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Sixth Circuits, as well as the Supreme Court of the United States.
